What is Calamansi?

Calamansi, also known as kalamansi or the Filipino lime or lemon, is native to the Philippines and some parts of Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and China. In certain parts of the US, it is known as calamondin, a former term used from the time when the Americans were occupying the Philippines. It is an anglicized version of the Tagalog name kalamunding.

Flavorwise, this little citrus gem is a cross between lime and lemon that is very sour with subtle floral notes. Calamansi is a versatile citrus fruit and extensively used in Filipino cuisine from marinades, sauces, dips and beverages

Calamansi Juice Benefits

This Calamansi Juice is a simple and easy beverage made from calamansi/calamondin, water, and sugar. It hits the right spot with its blend of tang and sweetness, setting your taste buds abuzz with delight.

This refreshing FilipinoΒ limeadeΒ boosts immunity thanks to its high vitamin C content. Skip the ice and drink it warm and it will aid in the cough relief as it breaks down mucus or phlegm. Replace the sugar with honey and it can also help with sore throats. Drinking calamansi juice can also help lower cholesterol and boost your metabolism, which aids in weight loss. This refreshing drink can also be a powerful detoxifying agent and energy booster.

However, since calamondin juice is acidic, you must still be mindful of the amount you consume, especially if you have a sensitive stomach.

Tips in making Calamansi Juice

Steps in making fresh calamansi juice.

To make your calamansi juice more flavorful and nutritious, you can add ginger, cucumber, or chia seeds.

If you prefer to enjoy calamansi juice hot, you can experiment with the following combinations:

  1. Add a dash of ground cinnamon or a cinnamon stick to hot calamansi juice for a warm and comforting flavor.
  2. Β Mix calamansi juice with hot water, a pinch of turmeric powder, and a drizzle of honey.
